Travelogue: Bangkok (4 - 8 Sept 2013) Part 1

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Yes, 3 weeks after my last trip, I am off to Bangkok again!

This time, with my favorite boy!

Wearing the kimono shrug from Yihui for my birthday!

While waiting to board the plane, we just shopped around and chanced upon this booth promoting a new vodka!

Very nice and Stan even said he was a bit drunk after drinking that SMALL cup!

As mentioned, we brought the Transformers out for a holiday!

We took a cap from the Bangkok International Airport to our hotel and the cab driver tried to cheat our money! His Math - CMI.

The trip should cost around 350 baht (including surcharge and toll fees) but he quoted 100baht more.
Not that 100 baht is a lot of money but it's an issue of principle here. He should not try to cheat us and please lor, Singaporeans' Math is super good k?

The friendly hotel staff came out to greet us and helped us to communicate with the driver. I am not sure whether his miscalculation was intentional. But in any case, the staff helped to make things right and we were led to the 17th floor to check-in!

Maybe it was a Wednesday, there was no one at the lobby and we were comfortably seated and sipping on our juices while waiting for the staff to process our check-in.

Sivatel Bangkok

Room on the 26th floor!

Every room in this hotel is a suite!

After going crazy in this huge suite (the most basic suite at 64 square metres!), we went to Nana area to tailor make Stan's working clothes!

Saw this purple corn but didn't try it because Stan said that we are going for a good dinner, so I wanna save my stomach for good food later on!

Stan did his research before coming and found Crown Tailor in Nana area. Service is not bad but the pants are exorbitant at S$80 a pair.

So if you are intending to get some shirts and pants done in Bangkok, please do not get your pants from Crown Tailor! Shirts still ok, at S$48 per shirt.

The restaurant that Stan picked for dinner was in the Nana area too, but it's a suuuuuuper far walk from the BTS station. You can see the building from afar but it's sure a long walk.

Yay! We finally reached after sweating buckets. LOL

Above Eleven at Fraser Suites
Located at the 33rd floor of the building, this place boasts of a fantastic view of Bangkok's skyline!
Reservation highly recommended, if not you might have to go away disappointed!

We went at around 6.30 when our reservation was actually at 7.30pm. Too hungry and there isn't really much to explore in Nana. And I am glad that we went earlier because we got to catch the sunset!

Stan was so sweet to give me such a pleasant surprise! I am not a girl who only goes after material wants. I'd rather have the company and experience over anything else.

And so this is our celebratory dinner for our 8th anniversary.

(I know right?! 8th anniversary? So freaking long already? Yes, this is how long we have been together. And no, we are not sick of each other yet. Hahahaha)

With such a magnificent view, you need some drinks to go along!

It was ladies' night and their mojito and margarita were at 150baht (nett) each!

I thought I'd order a mojito first, then a margarita afterwards. But look at the size of the mojito, how to order a second one?!

Left: Mojito (150baht nett)
Right: Mango and passionfruit smoothie (110 baht ++)

The mojito is soooo value-for-money and good! Quite strong too.

Stan woke up the next day saying he got a hangover.
(FYI: he only drank like one quarter of the whole drink.)

Left (mine): Arroz Con Pato (duck leg confit served with cilantro rice)
Right (Stan's): Arroz Con Mariscos (traditional Peruvian, yellow chili flavoured rice with seafood)

There was not much of a wind that night and left at about 8pm.

Saw this really cute standalone bar converted from a mini van! There were many such vans along the road but we didn't stop to try since we just had dinner and Stan isn't a drinks person.

Went into this super atas looking shophouse offering massage services at reasonable prices.

I went for the head & shoulder massage while Stan had his foot massage.
300 baht per person for an hour.

We were the only two customers inside and the ambience is very soothing!

But my masseur is super powerful. I think she ate like two cows for dinner. She really massaged me HARD. I was supposed to sit on a small stool after 40 minutes later, so that she can work on my upper back. But I didn't know she was waiting for me because she didn't even said anything! So I thought that my massage session was over and started using my phone. Until Stan prompted me.

After I sat on the stool, her strength was greater than ever! Stan said maybe she 不爽 that I didn't sit on the stool immediately, so she wanted revenge. I couldn't even see how she looks like until we went back to the reception area after the session. And boy, she has the biggest aura amongst all the masseurs there!

Talk about me being chao bin, she is at least 10 times worse! It was a good session because my muscles felt relaxed but the bruise-feeling lingered around my neck and shoulders for at least 5 days!

Day 2!

Breakfast is served in a restaurant on the 8th floor beside the pool.

We asked the hotel staff whether we can walk from the hotel to the Platinum Fashion Mall because we could see the building from our hotel. But he said it's not possible.

We didn't wanna take the cab because there will definitely be a jam and we might end up wasting more time in the cab. A train isn't really suitable either because the Mall is quite far from the BTS station. And so we WALKED! For a good 20 minutes I think.

Lunch at Fuji Restaurant, having my fave lunchtime steak set =D

The place we went in the evening needs no more introduction. Most of you would have gone there at least once if you went to Bangkok recently, right?

Stan says the mascot below looks like me, got meh??

We tried the snack in the top left corner before dinnertime. Very cheap about 14 pieces for just 40 baht. But it's made of coconut, so it's a bit savoury and a bit sweet which I didn't really like. Tastes weird to me...

I brought Stan to Why 97 for dinner because the ambience is good, price is reasonable and food is yummy!

I had the Chao Phraya cocktail while Stan had some juice. The cocktail is very strong!

I had Pad Thai while Stan had the Green Curry Softshell Crab.

Both were very yummy!
And that's all for Part 1!

Watch this space for Part 2 k?
