Day 4: Namdaemun and Yeungdongpo

MacDonald's breakfast! You can't see who is preparing the food because the food is delivered on a conveyor belt from upstairs (or whatever there is).

Plus our must-eat sandwiches from Issac's. Filling and yummy and cheap. What more can one ask for?

We have to change hotel today, so we just ventured to somewhere near our hotel so that we can be back in time to check in to the next hotel!

Our outfits for the day:

At Namdaemun! Where you can expect all the ahjummas and ahjussis (aunties and uncles) to congregate.

It's like our wet market, except it's dry here. All so noisy and you can hear lively but terrible CNY-alike songs playing!

We went to Namdaemun to get this golden pot for cooking ramen. Don't laugh.

I haven't tried using it. I bought one for a friend too. He better get down to using it soon!

On the way back, we decided to buy lunch back and eat in our hotel while resting.

Came across this super delicious Belgian waffle. Soooooo good!

3rd time to Korea but my first time eating jjajangmyun in Korea!

I think the noodles were a tad too soft for my liking (probably because we walked quite a distance back to our hotel) but the sauce is very very yummy! And the favorite Korean yellow pickles go perfectly with the jjajangmyun! =)

It's really hard to find authentic and good jjajangmyun in Singapore. So if you ever come across one, please intro to me k?

After resting, we headed to Yeungdongpo where there is an underground shopping street (as recommended by Chewy).

I like this place because the clothes are reasonably priced and it's underground!! Away from the freaking cold wind outside!

(remember to bargain if you are paying by cash)

The shopping mall linked to the underground shopping mall is nice to shop too!

No usual departmental stores (except for the super mart).

When in Korea, try to eat as much Korean food as we can =b

Fried rice for Stan and bibbimbap for me!

One last cafe stop for the day!

Free advertisement for Machio Man (haha, the link is at the right side of the blog, do click in to shop!)

Back to our hotel to rest for the night!

We stayed at Hotel Amare for the first 3 nights and Hotel Pop for the next 4 nights.

They are really next to each other, which facilitates us moving from one hotel to another easily.

Pictures of Hotel Pop as follows.

Supper - Mac's Bulgogi burger and steamed corn cob!

I love corn and the Korean corn tastes a bit like glutinous rice actually. Very very sweet but it's kinda chewy and hard to digest.

*Hint: if you are suffering from constipation, eat the Korean corn! Sure to cleanse your system VERY WELL the next day. Hahahahaha

=================

Day 5: Hongdae and Dongdaemun

We woke up late and ended having lunch as our first meal for the day!

Mini army stew for me and bibbimbap for Stan.

If you think I will get sick of all these red hot soups, you are wrong! I eat them everyday, almost every meal. I love them!

It was raining while roaming the streets of Hongdae, so we hid in Hello Kitty cafe!

Warning: massive amount of Hello Kitty pictures below. If you are not a fan, please scroll to the bottom straightaway.

And so you can tell, EVERYTHING is Hello Kitty! I am not a fan, but I just had to take pictures!

As with all other Hello Kitty cafes in the world, the drinks aren't good. Luckily we didn't order any food because we saw a couple leaving at least half a tiramisu behind!

During our stay at the cafe, a bunch of Hongkongers (around 7 or 8 squealing aunties) came up to the second floor and started snapping away. I thought they were waiting for their food. Turned out not. They just walked everywhere, squeal at everything, made lotsa noises and left. WITHOUT ordering anything. Seriously, don't they feel paiseh for not ordering anything?

Sorry I didn't take any pictures of Hongdae streets. These two pictures were taken by Stan.

I am too focused on shopping! Lol

Cafe break again!

Darn good blueberry cinnamon roll.

The balls of sweet toppings you see below? It's a German snack.

We bought 6 of them on our last day in Korea. You have to smash them with a hammer before eating.

At night, we went to Dongdaemun.

I can't tell you how much I really hate Dongdaemun. Nothing to buy at all, really!

I only bought two tops from this place after combing the entire Dongdaemun area for at least 3 hours. Waste of time, I won't bother going back there.

You are better off getting your fashion fix at Ewha University or Hongdae.

Dinner at a cute eatery!

My soondubu chigae (soft tofu stew)

(see? I told you I never get sick of these stuff.)

Stan's omelette rice with pork cutlet.

Me: Must always take picture before eating.

Stan: Can we get down to eating the food already? Please?

Supper: my favorite gimbab and nice Japanese cream tarts from Times Square.

Part 3 won't be anytime soon. Haha I need time to upload the pictures!
