Staycation at Pan Pacific Hotel (1-2 June 2013)

We went for a staycation over the weekend!

So many things happened before we could finally settle down and rest.

When we checked in at the concierge, the check-in staff was very noob and terrible in her attitude. She didn't explain where the breakfast place was, or where we can use the $40 dining credit (part of the staycation package). I was quite pissed, but didn't want to let this small incident affect our weekend. So I kept quiet.

She gave us a room on the 5th floor, which is the lowest possible! Fine, I keep quiet. Till I went into the room. As soon as we put down the bags, there was a drilling sound coming from the room above! WTF?!!

Stan called the concierge. After holding for some time, they said they will call us back. But they didn't. So my turn to call. I was getting more pissed by now (as you can imagine). I noted down the name of the lady who answered my call. She cut me off on more than one occasion, then tell me she can't give me a definite time when she can give me a satisfactory answer as to why there were drilling noises in the hotel.

While I was put on hold, I sent out an email to the Pan Pacific feedback email. To tell them about how angry I was and their below-expectations' level of service. They finally called me back to change a room for us. And you'd think this is the end of my story. You are so wrong.

We went into the 2nd room. Gosh!!! We were greeted by a super musty smell, like the room has been vacant for over a year and the room was not well-ventilated at all. So we switched on the air-con and after 20 minutes, the musty smell seems to be faint. And so we went for lunch (at 3.30pm!). When we returned to the room at around 5pm, we received a call from the operations manager.

She received my email and started apologising for the screw-ups. She tried to make up for it by treating us to dinner for that night. I was quite surprised that they actually read my email only a few hours after I sent it! I told her that our room had a musty smell and she came up to check. After all the checking, there was nothing they could do to remove the smell. And so we changed to a THIRD room. See? So many screw-ups! How to rest properly??

Anyway, the 3rd room was our final room. And the manager made a reservation for us at their Japanese restaurant for dinner.

We had a great view of the CBD area and MBS.

Late lunch was at Sushi Express at City Link.

It was our first time there. The food wasn't fantastic, but at $1.50++ per plate, I am not complaining!

There was even a long queue at 3plus in the afternoon and you have to fight with the other patrons when the chef loads the food onto the conveyor belt. Haha!

This is the top view of the Japanese restaurant that we will be dining at!

The evening was really beautiful at sunset.

Dinner time! The chef has already designed a set meal for us, with teppanyaki as the mains.

I tried sake for the first time! Ok la.... Not exactly my type but it went really well with the food!

I ended up drinking the whole bottle because Stan only took one small cup!

Starters (from top left, clockwise): Potato salad, sashimi, stone fish with edamame sauce and chawanmushi

I love the sashimi and Stan said the chawanmushi was really good (he doesn't usually eat steamed egg).

I was already pretty full after these 4 dishes!

Tempura! All these sides were not shared, each person had one portion! Can you imagine how much that is??

Mains - I had beef while Stan had the pork.

Sorry I am too full to really savour the teppanyaki. Real bloated.

After my sake, I had freshly squeezed orange juice to wash everything down.

The juice was soooooo good! I am a huge fan of juices. Heh....

Oh I almost forgot about the ice cream! I had lime sherbet while Stan had the sesame ice cream.

Both were equally yummy! And who can say no to ice cream??

After our 2.5 hour dinner, we saw this waiting outside our room! So nice right?

I guess they were just trying to make up for the unpleasant experience. Lol.

But still, greatly appreciated! =)

We were too full and had to get the staff to keep away the cake till our check-out the next day.

Champagne was left untouched too. Way too full and I already had sake!

Buffet breakfast at the Edge (part of the staycation package).

There was a long queue shortly after we got seated. And when we gave them our room number, they showed us to this long comfy sofa!

Breakfast was really enjoyable!

More than just coffee and tea, they serve latte, mocha, espresso, cappuccino and more!

It's not everyday you get to enjoy these coffees at a hotel's buffet breakfast, so we were really happy!

I ate all these below and more! Stan really got a shock at my appetite and I was the last man standing!

Whahahahaha... I can eat A LOT for breakfast.

They have freshly squeezed juices too! (my favorite!!)

So all in all, I drank one glass of apple juice, one glass of orange juice, one glass of cranberry juice, one cup of tea and one cup of latte.

Amazing right? I told you I have a HUGE appetite for breakfast!

(That's only for breakfast. I don't even eat supper.)

And ice cream for breakfast to end it off! I am super happy after breakfast!

Despite the screw-ups, we had a really enjoyable time at Pan Pacific this time!

Another service personnel came to follow up on our staycation when we checked out. They apologised again and said that the mistakes were not normal at all.

If you are looking for a hotel for a staycation, you may want to consider Pan Pacific (especially when they have just finished the renovations and everything is still pretty new)!

Of course, I hope you don't have to experience all the room-changing and musty smell that I went through!
