Concetto by Saveur at The Cathay

Thursday, May 1, 2014

I have previously blogged about the popular French restaurant, Saveur, (read about it here) and now we are here to try out its sister restaurant, Concetto!

Concetto by Saveur
The Cathay #01-11/12
2 Handy Road
Singapore 229233

We were there at around 5.30pm on a Saturday evening, so the place was still pretty empty. It isn't really conducive for a romantic candlelit dinner anyway, so turnover is quite fast.

Prawn Aglio (served with sakura ebi) - $10.90

Maybe I don't know how to appreciate Italian food but this looked more like stir fried mee pok with some prawns. Haha! The presentation could be better.

Crab Risotto - $12.90

I have never seen a risotto that looks so "saucy". Ain't risottos supposed to be drier than this? I thought we ordered porridge, at first glance. The rice were a tad overcooked (now it tastes even more like porridge) but otherwise, sauce was okay. The crabmeat is served on a wooden spoon, so don't say they didn't serve crab in your crab risotto k?

Pan seared tuna, baby romaine and honey mustard sauce - $8.90

This one is pretty refreshing but there was too much sesame on the tuna! I like the seared tuna and the mix of salad but the sauce could be lighter, so as not to overwhelm the taste of the whole dish.

Tagliolini, white wine clams and chopped herbs - $11.90

I HAVE to complain about this pasta. I'd call this mee kia boiled with sandy clams. First, the pasta was waaaaayyyyy overcooked. Next, the clams were full of sand!!! I took one bite and had to spit it out coz it was tooooo gross! I immediately called the waiter over and they asked me if I want to change to another dish.

Of course I did! I don't usually say this, but this pasta definitely SUCKS!

Black Risotto (served with two textures of squid) - $10.90

I ordered this risotto and requested for al dente (after our experience with the crab risotto, we have learnt to request for al dente and give the risotto a second chance). Now this is much better.

But the sauce is still wayyyy too much! The squid served with crispy rice cake bits were good. But my rice was swimming in the black sauce!!! I could drink the sauce as soup if I wanted to.

My dinner date - Adele!

We haven't met for almost half a year because of each other's busy schedules and traveling. It was so good catching up with her and there are some friends that you don't have to meet often but they will always be on my mind and Adele's one of them!

My pretty babeh! =D

I won't be coming back to Concetto anymore. Though they set the prices below your average Italian cuisine, the quality of the food is below average too. Nah, just not worth a second visit.
