A very good book by Nicholas Sparks, once again. This book talks about a woman, Erin, who tries to escape and start life anew after being abused by her husband, Kevin, for years.
When she married him, things went well only in the first few months of their married life. Then Kevin would beat her up when he got drunk, kicked her till she could not even stand up straight. He controlled Erin’s every move and cut off all her contacts with the world by keeping her in the house. If she ever needs anything, he will chauffeur her around and make sure she does nothing more than what is necessary. Even her hairstyle was decided by her husband. The beatings got more frequent and Erin decided that she could not do this for the rest of her life. She had to run. And she can’t report this to the police. For Kevin is the police.
So she planned every step of the escape in great detail. She can’t afford to fail. After months, she finally got to a small town and settled down with a new identity, Katie. She didn’t dare to believe in love anymore. Or at least until she met Alex.There is a lot of suspense and Sparks successfully creates a lot of images in your mind as you read. There is also a spooky twist at the end. I am not telling. You gotta read it for yourself!
This story keeps me glued to the pages till late night. Sparks no longer tells of a heart-wrenching love story this time. It’s much more than heart-wrenching. Something very different from his usual style and I love it!
If you are bored, do consider picking up a book from the library and do some reading! Takes your mind off the problems in life for a while and even better, it’s free.
