Review: Flhair Salon

Saturday, September 28, 2013

As you all know, my hair is very very important to me. And so, finding the right stylist is critical in ensuring that my hair doesn't get out of hand.

After a friend recommended this place to me 1.5 years ago, I have been coming back to the same stylist dutifully to get my hair trimmed!

Flhair Salon
Blk 715 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6
#01-4002
Singapore 560715

Tel: 6452 2330

Just look at my crazy ugly messy hair, it's definitely time for a trim!

They have just moved to this new space recently and the whole setting is designed by the boss himself, Calvin!!

They are having an opening special right now!

Be sure to call them to make an appointment first because they are ALWAYS packed. Like really ALL the time.......

A big thanks to Calvin for my makeover since 1.5 years ago and I am loving my short do right now!

I actually wanted to dye my hair blue some time ago, but decided against it. Because that would require bleaching and my hair would be soooo damaged!

For now, I love black and it suits me, so hooray to all-natural black hair! =D

Review: FeelUnique.com, TIGI S Factor and Goldwell

Friday, September 27, 2013

Two new hair products arrived in my mailbox recently!

1. TIGI S Factor Soothing Conditioner

This conditioner has a very fruity smell which definitely makes your hair smell good! And yes, it does make my hair shiny and smooth after using. But it's not as weightless as the John Freida one.

2. Goldwell Dual Senses Deep Cleansing Shampoo

This one smells of citrus and does not produce much bubbles. So far, after using it for one week plus, my hair is more manageable and my scalp doesn't secrete as much oil after one whole day. So it's good!

Sometimes, it's not just one particular product that makes your hair good. It's all the different products combined with your own efforts to enjoy a good hair day!

Many friends have been asking me where I usually buy my hair products from and here is the answer:

This UK-based website offers free international shipping! Whoo! Much better than some local websites that charge $10/$20 delivery charges for orders less than a minimum quantity. Pui!

This site does not require any minimum order to enjoy free shipping to Singapore! It usually arrives within 2 weeks from your order date. So if your toiletries are running low, be sure to order early!

Please note that you can't buy products that are currently found in Singapore due to shipping restrictions. So the products that I buy are always not found in Singapore.

Caution: try out new products at your own risk.

Remember to sign up for an account with Feel Unique to enjoy special discount codes and keep yourself updated with the latest offers! Sometimes they offer freebies with some purchases, so please remember to check out their special offers!

Enjoy your shopping at FeelUnique!

Hair Maintenance

Friday, August 9, 2013

Finally I am blogging about my hair regime!

And 12 hour countdown before I scoot off to Bangkok! Whee~

1) Shampoo

I used to think that I had dandruff a few years back because I would see some small white bits coming out if I scratch my head. (Gross, I know!)

But then I started investing time and effort in my hair by going to a salon and to my delight/shock (whatever la), I don't have dandruff! It's actually sensitive scalp! So the white bits were actually from my scalp. Along with it, there were red patches too =(

And so I changed my shampoo from "Oily scalp" to "Sensitive scalp". But my hair is still very dry, so I started using two separate shampoos - a rich shampoo for the hair and a lighter one for the scalp. And I only take 15 minutes max to shower.

If you are not willing to invest in a good shampoo for your sensitive scalp, I'd recommend Johnson & Johnson's baby shampoo (the yellow one). This shampoo is very gentle and much cheaper than the professional ones!

Since I cut short my hair last year, there was no need for the rich shampoo anymore.

But still, it's actually recommended to alternate between two shampoos every other day. And of course, be sure to change your shampoo every six months. This is because your hair will not be able to absorb the nutrients from the shampoo after prolonged use. Your hair would have already developed resistance against the shampoo and this means that the shampoo is wasted!

Anyway, the two shampoos that I used are:

Left: Sensitive shampoo from Beyond (Korean brand, approx S$17)

Right: Follicle Stimulating shampoo from LA Science (from Feelunique.com, approx S$20)

It's said that you can do away with the conditioning step when you use the LA Science shampoo. And it's true, my hair became really soft after using this!

Are you one of those who merely spend 30 seconds working the lather on your head and then wash it off shortly after?

You need to massage  your scalp to stimulate hair growth and let the shampoo clean the scalp properly!

Hair experts say that you need to let the shampoo sit in your hair for at least two minutes. And massage your scalp using the fingers (not the nails!)

If you are too lazy, then you can consider getting a massage brush to help you do the job! Use it during the shampoo stage when your hair is wet.

2) Conditioning and treatment

For those with frizzy hair (like me), do you face the same problem of finding the right conditioner for your hair?

Especially in Singapore where we face high humidity everyday, we need strong anti-frizz conditioner for our hair! At the same time, I don't want the conditioner to weigh down my hair.

So I found these two weightless conditioners (at the same time, creating volume for my bob hair) and hope to share it with you!

Left: Full Body conditioner from John Frieda (commonly found at Watsons, approx S$15.90)

Right: Scalp Specialist 60 Sec Hair Treatment from Goldwell, Dual Senses (from Feelunique.com, approx S$26) - not recommended for daily use. It leaves a protective layer on your scalp and hair. So you might feel that your hair is a little oily if you use it everyday.

Oh yes, remember to change your conditioner frequently too!

3) Hair tonic (after shampoo)

Hair tonics are usually quite expensive (in the range of $30 - $100). But I found this ginseng hair tonic from Innisfree (a Korean brand) and stuck to it since 1.5 years ago! It only costs approx S$10 at 100ml.

You only need about 5 sprays for the whole head after towelling your hair. Spray directly onto the scalp and massage. Wait for about 3 minutes for the cooling effect to set in before you start blowing dry your hair.

This hair tonic prevents hair fall and keeps my scalp healthy!

Tip: The colour of healthy scalp is white, so if you see a patch of your scalp turning darker (almost to the same shade as your skin color), it means you need to salvage it before it becomes completely bald!!

4) Hair serum (to fight the frizz!)

I have always been using the Nuance Airy hair serum from Essential (commonly found in Watsons, approx S$10.90) and it works pretty well for me.

I will apply it when my hair is about 50% dry before blowing it completely dry. This is because heat will allow the hair to better absorb the serum and my hair will stay frizz-free the whole day!

Recently, I have started trying Macherie Hair Oil from Shiseido (bought in Japan, approx S$10) and it is stronger than the Essential one, despite being more liquid. It has a very strong fruity smell!

I use the huge black professional hairdryer that you see in the salons, with temperature and speed controls. The usual small ones are too weak and it won't blow the frizz away. Be sure to blow your hair using a top-down approach. And I always use cold air to blow my hair towards the end. To close up the pores on your hair and stop the frizz!

And the above is my daily hair regime.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this post and learnt more about your hair!

Start investing time and effort in your hair before it's too late!

ps. Thinning hair makes you look older and bad hair days turn people off.
