11 Ways to Maintain Your (Slim and Healthy) Figure

Friday, November 8, 2013

Some of my personal habits not to get fat. And of course, stay healthy and slim.

1. ALWAYS eat your breakfast. Helps to keep your metabolism up.

2. Buy clothes that are just nice or slightly tight. Keeps you in check so that you know that you have gained weight when your clothes are getting too tight for you.

3. Being an exercise freak doesn't give you the right to consume loads of calories. Eat less, move more.

4. Look at pictures of fat people, cellulite thighs, flabby arms to constantly remind yourself not to become one of them.

5. Don't eat supper AT ALL. Though I personally have not tried whether supper really makes people fat, but I am not put the theory to test. Rather believe it.

6. Try to shit everyday. Not verbal shit, but excreting our body waste the usual way. That way, you prevent toxins from building up in your body. (If you don't wanna eat fibre supplements, try massaging your tummy around the belly button area before food. It helps!)

7. Pile up on your fibre! Eat lotsa veggies, apples, muesli, yoghurt!

8. Chew up and slow down. Chew your food at least 25 times before you swallow it. Break it down into smaller pieces for easier digestion. Don't be in a hurry to finish eating. Slow down and savour the taste.

9. NO SNACKING. This is one rule I strictly abide by. I don't eat chips, chocolate, gummy candy because they are more harmful than good. If you must snack, grab an apple or drink some milk. I have read somewhere that granola bars are actually not THAT healthy as they seem to be.

10. Drink lots of water! Water helps to flush out the toxins in our body, aids in digestion and sometimes makes us feel full. So the next time you are feeling hungry, try to drink some water first? Warm water is preferred over iced water.

11. Coffee lovers please ask for the Skinny version of your fave Starbucks drink. Every little bit counts.

I didn't include exercising in the above 11 ways because I don't really exercise. The most I do is probably a swim in months, 10 minute simple yoga and stretching every morning. Of course, exercising is healthy and you should do it often! (I can't say the same for myself because I am too lazy and I hate to sweat.) That's why I use other means to not get fat. I am not slim but at least I am not plump =D

Review: Flhair Salon

Saturday, September 28, 2013

As you all know, my hair is very very important to me. And so, finding the right stylist is critical in ensuring that my hair doesn't get out of hand.

After a friend recommended this place to me 1.5 years ago, I have been coming back to the same stylist dutifully to get my hair trimmed!

Flhair Salon
Blk 715 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6
#01-4002
Singapore 560715

Tel: 6452 2330

Just look at my crazy ugly messy hair, it's definitely time for a trim!

They have just moved to this new space recently and the whole setting is designed by the boss himself, Calvin!!

They are having an opening special right now!

Be sure to call them to make an appointment first because they are ALWAYS packed. Like really ALL the time.......

A big thanks to Calvin for my makeover since 1.5 years ago and I am loving my short do right now!

I actually wanted to dye my hair blue some time ago, but decided against it. Because that would require bleaching and my hair would be soooo damaged!

For now, I love black and it suits me, so hooray to all-natural black hair! =D

Review: FeelUnique.com, TIGI S Factor and Goldwell

Friday, September 27, 2013

Two new hair products arrived in my mailbox recently!

1. TIGI S Factor Soothing Conditioner

This conditioner has a very fruity smell which definitely makes your hair smell good! And yes, it does make my hair shiny and smooth after using. But it's not as weightless as the John Freida one.

2. Goldwell Dual Senses Deep Cleansing Shampoo

This one smells of citrus and does not produce much bubbles. So far, after using it for one week plus, my hair is more manageable and my scalp doesn't secrete as much oil after one whole day. So it's good!

Sometimes, it's not just one particular product that makes your hair good. It's all the different products combined with your own efforts to enjoy a good hair day!

Many friends have been asking me where I usually buy my hair products from and here is the answer:

This UK-based website offers free international shipping! Whoo! Much better than some local websites that charge $10/$20 delivery charges for orders less than a minimum quantity. Pui!

This site does not require any minimum order to enjoy free shipping to Singapore! It usually arrives within 2 weeks from your order date. So if your toiletries are running low, be sure to order early!

Please note that you can't buy products that are currently found in Singapore due to shipping restrictions. So the products that I buy are always not found in Singapore.

Caution: try out new products at your own risk.

Remember to sign up for an account with Feel Unique to enjoy special discount codes and keep yourself updated with the latest offers! Sometimes they offer freebies with some purchases, so please remember to check out their special offers!

Review: Korean brand Belif

Monday, September 9, 2013

Heys!

Sorry I haven't been updating for more than a week.

Now that I am officially free, do expect more regular updates!

Today I want to share about this upcoming Korean brand Belif.

I am always looking for something to brighten up my dull skin and black face and so I was recommended to try this out!

Belief peat miracle revital serum concentrate

Directions:
Apply just one drop all over face, day and night.
Pat your face lightly to enhance absorption.

Just one drop is enough to cover the whole face! And one bottle should last about 4-5 months (according to the salesgirl).

I have just started using it for a few weeks now but I feel like that my skin doesn't feel dry so easily and it's less sensitive now! Whoo!

SG price: S$85
Korea price: US$41

If you want to try this out, I suggest that you get your friends to help it from Korea, so much cheaper!

Want to introduce the two trusted facial masks that I use on a regular basis. If I ain't lazy, I'd use facial masks about twice a week. Otherwise, sometimes once a fortnight......

Shara Shara snail mask

I previously mentioned that the extract from the snail's mucus has very good repair properties?

This is the mask soaked in snail mucus! It's from the same brand as my moisturiser. Read about my review for the moisturiser here Rest assure that there is no disgusting smell at all. In fact, it's rather pleasant and it's super sticky!

It's very moisturising and I usually don't have to apply anymore moisturiser after the mask.

Not found in Singapore yet.

Korea price: approx S$1 per piece

The Face Shop Raspberry Eye Mask

You probably heard about this eye mask before.

It's made of jelly and it sticks to the eye area quite well. I always use it on my forehead after putting it on my eyebags.

Don't waste it. LOL

SG price: Approx S$3 per piece
Korea price: Approx S$1.25 per piece

I hope you guys are putting in more effort to keep up with a good facial regime nowadays!

Skin-deep Beauty

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Sharing my beauty regime today for flawless and radiant skin that is completely free of make-up.

Yes, I don't put make-up at all. Because I am of the opinion that make-up clogs up your pores and makes your complexion bad. Over time, you will need more and more make-up to cover up your blemishes. I don't wanna get sucked into the vicious cycle.

And girls with thick make-up are quite amazing. They can look really different without make-up.
(How can their boyfriends still recognise them ah?)

My skin problems: dull and super dry skin.

1. Cleanser

(a) Laniege White Plus Renew Foam Cleanser

I used to use SKII's facial cleanser but it was kinda drying for my already-dry-enough skin.

Then I went to Korea and Laniege was so cheap there! I had previously researched that the Laniege cleanser can brighten up my skin and I was really keen to try it out!

I was quite happy with the results and foam cleansers really cleans your face thoroughly because the particles are small enough to cleanse your pores. I don't like the cream type that will only foam after you mix it with water.

Too much of a hassle and I think the particles are not as small as the Laniege one.

I can't remember the exact price in Singapore but I know it's about half-price in Korea. So if you wanna try this, be sure to get it direct from Korea!

(b) Dermost Purity Bubble Cleanser (A Beautiful Moment)

On another trip to Korea, I chanced upon this brand called A Beautiful Moment and the friendly salesgirl recommended this foam cleanser to me.

It costs half as much as the Laniege cleanser (approx S$12) for almost the same volume!

Best of all, it evens out your skin tone and is soothing for the skin. I find this even less drying than the Laniege one.

I like value-for-money stuff, so I highly recommend this cleanser if you are looking for something mild and yet thorough in cleaning at the same time!

However, this brand can't be found in Singapore.

Tips on cleansing:

- Wash your face twice a day (once at night, once in the day).
- Use warm water to wash your face to allow the pores to open.
- Use a clean towel / tissue paper to dab your face dry afterwards.

2. Toner

(a) SKII Facial Treatment Essence

I started using SKII since four years ago and never stopped since then. As usual, I wanted something to brighten up my dull skin then and my friend recommended SKII to me.

I have always think that SKII is too expensive but if it works, why not?

And yes, it works!! I think a few months after I used it, my skin started looking brighter and more radiant! I used to have really really dull skin, by the way.

A large bottle (215ml) lasted me for a year, so I can say that this is actually quite worth it too!

I only use 3 drops every time, once in the morning and once at night.
3 drops is enough for the whole face!

(b) Toner from Kose

Kose in Japan is not a brand you'd find in the departmental stores. Instead, you'd find it at normal pharmacies and Watsons-lookalike shops!

Kose is actually a pretty cheap brand in Japan. I saw this toner many times but wasn't sure whether it'd be good.

But since I needed something in travel-size, why not just give it a try? And so I bought this sample size (24ml) for just S$5! Cheap right?

I have used it when I go on holiday in Bangkok and it doesn't irritate my skin at all. It's actually quite moisturising too!

I am not sure whether Kose or SKII is more expensive but both are good!

Caution: I have friends who tried SKII but it wasn't suitable for them. So maybe you'd wanna get a sample before buying the actual size?

3. Moisturiser

(a) Laniege Water Sleeping Pack EX

This sleeping pack needs no further introduction. Everyone should be really familiar with it by now.

It used to work for me but after that, I guess my skin developed immunity and it wasn't as hydrating as I'd like it to be.

It's supposed to be a sleeping mask but I use it as a daily moisturizer.

It's pretty expensive in Singapore (around S$45 if I am not wrong?). You can get it in Korea for about S$26.

Scroll down for cheaper alternatives =)

(b) Nature Republic's Aqua Cream

This works the same as the Laniege Sleeping Pack but only costs S$11 for the same volume!

There are three different kinds of aqua cream (for combination / dry / normal skin).

This one below is the most moisturising of them all (for my super dry skin).

However, I think that this is only good for moisture and doesn't serve other functions.
(c) Shara Shara Snail Source Repair Cream

This is the one I strongly recommend!!!! I can't stop raving about how good this moisturiser is.

Costs about S$18 for a 50ml tub. Worth every cent, in my humble opinion.

As you may already know, snail mucus filtrate is very good for locking in moisture and repairing your skin. This cream has a very high concentration of the snail mucus, which means it can repair your skin over time. Say bye to blemishes already!

So currently, this is the one I am using and it keeps my skin hydrated all day. My skin used to be so dry that you can see little white bits of skin flake on my cheeks after a few hours in the air-conditioned room. With this, no such problem anymore!

4. Sunblock

Kose SPF25 PA++ Sunblock cum Moisturiser

Stan said that I should start using sunblock as it will prevent pimples and other blemishes. And the strong sun rays in Singapore can cause skin cancer and make our skin age faster.

I have been searching for the perfect sunblock for a very long time until I found this one below.

I think most sunblocks weigh down on my skin and I feel like there is something sticking onto my skin for the whole day. I hate this kind of feeling. Some even have white rubbery bits coming off if you rub too hard. Others just make me look super white while my neck is still of the original skin tone.

This one here feels very light on the skin and it does not make you look as white as a ghost at all. It blends into your skin very well and serves as a moisturiser as well!

Sunblock is very important and you shouldn't wait till you are 30 to start applying sunblock on your skin. I know your skin will only start deteriorating after 25. But the sooner you start, the better it is. After all, prevention is better than cure!

Singapore retail price: S$85 for 50ml
Japan retail price: S$50 for 50ml (after 30% discount)

General tips:

- Slowly pat the moisturiser into your skin, instead of rubbing it around.
Patting will allow better absorption.
- Do not apply moisturizer on your eye area as the skin around the eye is very thin and vulnerable. If you must, use a proper eye serum.
- Be sure to catch up on your beauty sleep (at least 7 hours a day) from 11pm onwards.
Your skin repairs itself from 11pm to 1am. So that's the best time to let your skin rest.
- Abstain from fried and spicy food wherever possible. Such heaty food will cause pimples.
- Acne scars will slowly fade over time. But as you age, your metabolism rate goes down and it will take a longer time for your scar to fade away. So please protect your skin from pimples if you don't wanna have a pock-marked face!
- Drink lotsa water to repair your skin from within!
- Don't be afraid to face the sun as long as you have sunblock. Vitamin D can be created from adequate exposure to sunlight. Do you know that deficiency in Vit D can lead to osteoporosis?

I hope you have found this blog post useful in learning more about your skin and what's good for your skin!

Ciao, y'all!
